National Beta Club

About: SC Whitmore School is National Beta School of Distinction. Beta Club is a group of students committed to leading through serving others in their community and state. Students work to complete volunteer hours, as well as come together as a team to complete a service project. Members must be in grades 10-12 and have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 and be in good attendance standing and no disciplinary infractions. All members pay a $15 membership fee.

National Honors Society

About: The SC Whitmore National Honor Society is an organization for students in grades 10-12. Selection is based on four criteria: scholarship, character, leadership, and service. Members complete volunteer hours and work together to complete at least one service project each school year. Membership into the National Honor Society allows students to apply for over 400 college scholarships not available to other students. Members also have access to numerous college planning services.

Each chapter is required to publish its qualifications for membership, which is based on the four pillars of NHS:

1. Scholarship
   Per national guidelines, at a minimum, students must have a cumulative GPA of 85, B, 3.5 on a 4.0 scale, or equivalent standard of excellence. (Each school chapter is allowed to require a higher cumulative GPA.)

2. Service
   This involves voluntary contributions made by a student to the school or community, done without compensation.

3. Leadership
   Student leaders are those who are resourceful, good problem solvers, and idea contributors. Leadership experiences can be drawn from school or community activities while working with or for others.

4. Character
   The student of good character is cooperative; demonstrates high standards of honesty and reliability; shows courtesy, concern, and respect for others; and generally maintains a clean disciplinary record.

About: Elected or appointed student governance organizations at any education institution are eligible to become ASGA Student Government Members. The American Student Government Association will provide all Student Government leaders and advisors nationwide with networking, research, and information resources and will teach them how to become more effective, ethical, and influential leaders on their campuses
